HBO Max Will Launch May 27th With ‘Friends,’ ‘Doctor Who,’ ‘Looney Tunes,’ and More

HBO Max, the latest streaming service vying for your dollars, just announced a launch date—May 27th. The service will house HBO and Warner Media offerings, including DC movies, FriendsDoctor Who, and several originals. But at $14.99, it’s one of the most expensive streaming options you can buy.

HBO is pulling out all the stops to get its new service on the ground. Eventually, you’ll be able to watch every HBO original series on the streaming service, though you can only see some titles at launch. The company also spent gobs of money on buying exclusive rights to popular shows like Friends and Doctor Who. That last show was a significant point of contention in our TV Shows to binge roundup.

But it isn’t just movies and tv series you’ve already seen, HBO Max also plans to launch several originals. On the more kid-friendly spectrum is a new Looney Tunes series and the Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo. 

Adults will enjoy continuations of Adventure TimeGossip Girl, and a Friends reunion special. True originals include thrillers like Flight Attendant and reality TV like Legendary and Craftopia. The good news is, existing HBO subscribers on AT&T and HBO Now direct billing subscribers will get HBO Max for free Everyone else will have to pay $14.99 a month.

Only time will tell if all the content is worth the high price. One thing is sure, there’s no end in sight for new streaming service debuts.
